The Certificate EVE® of Introduction to Wine Tasting and Culture is a certification designed to teach you the wine tasting method, the key grape varieties, the different types of wine, and the essential guidelines for building successful food and wine pairings.

Then this distance learning programme is for you.

The Certificate of Introduction to Wine Tasting and Culture is a certification designed to teach you the wine tasting method, the key grape varieties, the different types of wine, and the essential guidelines for building successful food and wine pairings.

 

Learning objectives

  • Master the tasting method: learn and apply a structured, professional wine tasting method.
  • Know the key grape varieties: recognise and describe the main grape varieties used in winemaking.
  • Identify wine types and styles: tell apart and classify the different types of wine.
  • Pair food and wine: apply the essential principles for creating harmonious food and wine pairings.

Once you have enrolled, you will receive:

  • Your access to the virtual Campus (within 48 working hours), where you will find all the course modules.
  • Your study book and a tasting case containing 11 vinottes (11 wine samples of 2 cl each).
  • A link to book your 1-hour LIVE session with a qualified tutor. Several dates are available, and a replay is sent to you after the session. The LIVE is designed as an interactive complement to your learning: a chance to talk directly with your tutor and with other wine lovers.

Your tasting case is delivered to your home. It contains:

  • 11 wine samples (2 cl vinottes), selected to match the programme of the Certificate of Introduction to Wine Tasting and Culture.
  • Online access to the 11 tasting notes (one per vinotte), written using the method taught in the certificate.

Please note: we recommend tasting your samples within 2 months of receiving your case. The samples are prepared using an innovative patented process that preserves the organoleptic characteristics of the wines for at least 2 months.

 

When will your tasting case arrive?

Cases are dispatched within 10 days and shipped to most countries worldwide.

Note on tasting cases: customs charges may apply and be billed to the customer, typically between €5 and €30.

Candidates for the Certificate of Introduction to Wine Tasting and Culture sit a 1-hour exam at the end of the course. It is taken entirely online, from home.

The exam combines multiple choice questions, case studies and a blind tasting.

To be awarded the certificate, you must score at least 55/100 in each of the three parts.

 

Grading

  • 55/100 — pass
  • 65 to 75 — pass with credit
  • 75 to 85 — pass with merit
  • 86 and above — pass with distinction

Exam pass rate: 99%

Every exam question is drawn from the course modules, and the learning materials contain everything you need to answer them.

If you do not pass, you may resit the exam (a resit fee may apply).

Course duration: 8 hours (6 hours of tuition + 2 hours of personal study).

There are no entry requirements for the Certificate of Introduction to Wine Tasting and Culture.

It is designed for wine lovers who want to learn a proper tasting method and the fundamentals of wine. It is the ideal first step before moving on to an intermediate-level certification with confidence.
